Jonathan Davenport Claims Second Straight Lucas Oil Title
October 20, 2019
October 20, 2019 - "Superman" Jonathan Davenport officially claimed his second straight Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship and his third title overall over the October 18-19 weekend at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio!
Jonathan timed in eighth fastest in Group A during qualifying on Friday night prior to securing a triumph in his heat race. After earning the seventh most points in preliminary action, JD started Saturday’s 100-lap ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ from the inside of the fourth row.
The Blairsville, Georgia standout then ran amongst the top ten early in the $100,000 to win crown jewel spectacular before he drew a lap 40 caution flag due to a deflating Hoosier tire. Jonathan then returned to the racetrack at the tail end of the feature field – with fresh rubber – and was able to salvage an apparent ninth place performance.
However, after the race, series officials deemed that Jonathan did not have a flat right rear tire when he drew the caution and changed tires, which unfortunately disqualified him and dropped him to twenty-sixth in the final finishing order of the DTWC.
